Scale Trains is offering a limited run of a Scale Trains branded ES44 model using their new logo. They’re also allowing customers to design the model and we’ll have a chance to vote on the winning design. Each person was allowed to submit one entry using Scale Trains’ provided template which included a side, front, back and top view of an ES44. You were able to print it out and draw by hand or use computer software such as Photoshop to make your design.
Here is my submitted ES44 design. I imported their file into Photoshop and created layers to easily switch between different chassis, handrail and body shell colors. I decided to go with a black chassis and a body shell design that centers around their new crossings logo that extends into stripes the full length of the locomotive.
The nose of the locomotive used the dimensions of railroad crossing logo to create a design inspired by units that have the chevron design such as the Rio Grande, Illinois Terminal and Nickel Plate Road. I tried to find a balance between the chevron design and the crossing sign.
The top is all black with the Scale Trains name in red.
